With extensive leadership experience in medicine, Dr. Timothy Niewold directs the Barbara Volcker Center for Women and Rheumatic Disease in New York. Managing a federally funded grant research program, he focuses on the pathogenesis and clinical care of diseases such as connective tissue disease, lupus, and anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome. Timothy Niewold, MD, regularly organizes symposiums focused on rheumatic conditions and women’s health.
Dr. Niewold also serves as the CEO of Genenius Analytics, focusing on the development and implementation of genetic prediction models for autoimmune diseases. These models enable early diagnosis of autoimmunity in patients. His experience includes directing genotype analysis at the University of Chicago Digestive Diseases Research Core Center. As the research chair of the Mayo Clinic’s Rheumatology Division, Dr. Niewold oversaw basic, translational, and clinical research activities. Overseeing grant applications, he has mentored many junior faculty and fellows across various areas of basic, translational, and clinical research.
Dr. Niewold has served on the American College of Rheumatology’s Committee on Finance, and was previously the Chair of the Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Council. As an Arthritis National Research Foundation board member, he helps to oversee the organization’s finances, and research grant portfolio and coordinated fundraising.
